FOREVER GRATEFUL

© 1990 Lisa A. Moore

Forgive me, Lord, when my tear-dimmed eyes sometimes fail to see
The multitudes of blessings that you've bestowed on me.

In my self-made prison of pity I dwell on the struggles of life
And it seems my most cherished possessions are the cause of my pain and strife.

The dear children you have blessed me with take so much from me
That they become my burdens and their wants are all I see.

The cherished husband I vowed to love for better and for worse
I don't see as a blessing but rather as a curse.

The home that you have given me is filled with endless chores
Of cooking, cleaning, washing clothes, and sweeping dirty floors.

The church that you have blessed me in demands so much of my time--
And they're always needing money, I can't give another dime.

The friends that you have given me have problems without end;
I can't even solve my own, much less be a friend.

The job that you have graced me with, I can't take another day;
I work so hard and wonder why, it's surely not the pay.

Behind these bleak self-pity walls, nothing looks quite right;
Gloom and darkness fill my room, I can barely see the light.

But when I tear down these self-built walls of pity and despair,
I see things as they really are and bow to you in prayer.

Lord, you've done so much for me…I can't begin to comprehend
The countless many blessings you have given without end.

To this sometimes ungrateful heart, you have poured out so much love…
I should be forever thankful for your blessings from above.

BRAVE LITTLE SOLDIER

© 1990 Lisa A. Moore

Take courage my brave little soldier, the battle's almost through
And when this life is over, I'm gonna carry you…
Through death's deep, dark valley, onto the other side
Then I'll set you gently down, and forever we'll abide.

I'll answer all your questions, your tears I'll wipe away
Your pain will be forever gone, and then you'll hear me say:
"Well done, my brave little solder! You finally made it home.
Because you put your trust in me, you never walked alone.

You may have lost some battles. It's been a long, hard fight.
Sometimes you took your eyes off me--but you never lost your sight.
And there were times you thought you couldn't walk another mile.
So I picked you up and carried you, for just a little while.

Welcome home, my brave little soldier. You finally won the war!
And I'm so glad you're home, child; but listen there is more….
Over yonder, you'll find Moses; and Noah, he's here too,
And all the blessed saints of old who made it, just like you.

Look, child, there's your mom and dad…and there's your long, lost friend.
Go ahead, and take your time, child. This reunion never ends!
But wait, child, it's not time yet. There's work for you to do.
And lots of weary soldiers who need a friend like you.

Someone they can count on, when things don't go so right.
Someone they can turn to, who'll point them toward the light.
So when you get so homesick, child, you don't know what to do…
Just tell some precious soul of mine about all I've done for you.

BATTLE PRAYER

© 1990 Lisa A. Moore

Father, there's a mighty battle raging in my heart.
And, Satan's fighting desperately to rip my soul apart.
I'm in a dangerous combat zone and Satan's on my back.
He waits until my guard is down and launches his attack.

This flesh of mine is weak, O Lord. It wants me to give in.
God, please don't forsake me now. Make me want to win.
The enemy taunts me with his lies, he rejoices in deceit.
When I surrender the fight to him, he celebrates my defeat.

Oh, how I despise him, Lord. He's near me day and night.
He robs me of my joy and peace, my loss is his delight.
He is the master of deceit, the prince of sin and strife.
His ultimate goal to steal men's souls and take their precious life.

But I belong to you now, Lord. Christ Jesus, You're my King.
With You as my commander, I have strength to do all things.
Don't let me forget, Dear God, that I am not alone.
Because I'm covered with Your blood, I can boldly approach Your throne.

This battle, it's not mine, dear God. I'm giving it to you.
For there's no army great enough, that You can't march right through.
Because, Lord, You're the Almighty One! You've never lost a war.
And in Your presence, Satan flees. Your mightiness endures!

Bless Your Holy Name, Sweet God! Your righteousness lives on.
Forever, You'll be Lord of All, and Satan will be gone.
Into the Lake of Fire, Death and Hell will be cast down.
And I'll be safe in Heaven, with my mansion and a crown.

I BELIEVE

Click Here to Email the Poet,(c)2004 Dena McDonald.

I believe that every cloud does have a silver lining,
Only if we look at it through God’s eyes.

I believe every “why me” and “how could this happen” will be answered,
Only if we are listening to God’s voice.

I believe every bad situation is hiding a great learning experience,
Only if we use God’s patience.

I believe every piece of bondage can disappear from our lives,
Only if we use God’s strength.

I believe every dream can be successful,
Only if we pursue it for God’s glory.

I believe every broken heart we suffer and every tear we cry is worth it,
Only if we use our right to cry on God’s shoulder.
